Samsung Galaxy S9 and Galaxy Note 8 Has Serious Privacy Issue Bug

If you own a Samsung S9 or Galaxy Note 8, better turn file permissions off for your Samsung built-in message application. Some Galaxy owners are having a bad time. This news was first spotted in Gizmodo, users complaining in Reddit and Samsung’s official forum, that their gallery images are shared with their contacts without the knowledge of the owners.

Google recently sat with their OEM manufacturers and telecom carriers around the world to give iMessage like experience to Android users. The services are called Rich Communication Services. Samsung users complaining about this issues after the recent Samsung Message update.

Actual Complaint on Reddit

A Samsung S9+ owner first reported in the Reddit that his entire gallery images are sent to his girlfriend mobile. The worst part is, there was no record for sending those images in the messaging app. Luckily he found out the image sharing record in the T-Mobile log.

After the Reddit, the complaints start to be discussed in the Samsung’s own forum. One of the users has experienced many issues with the Samsung messages after the recent update.

Problem Is On Samsung Side

As you can see both the S9 owners are using T-Mobile carriers. T-Mobile has just released its RCS update this week, starting from Samsung Galaxy S7 and S7 edge. To clarify the issue T-Mobile carrier told Gizmodo that “it is not a T-Mobile issue”. Samsung clearly accepts that they are aware of the issues and their technical team is already working on the issue.

“We are aware of the reports regarding this matter and our technical teams are looking into it. Concerned customers are encouraged to contact us directly at 1-800-SAMSUNG.”

Temporary Fix For Galaxy S9 Text Bug

This bug is seriously making a privacy issue. We always have some private photos in our gallery, what if they are sent to our boss or other random people in our contact; it will be so embarrassing. As of now the only fix is revoking the storage permission in your Samsung Message application and don’t use it till the issue is fixed.
